FACELIFT
Overview
Rhytidectomy commonly known as face-lift is a cosmetic surgery which involves operating on the face. The surgery aims at providing a youthful look by removing the sagging of the skin on the face which occurs with age. The sagging skin is pulled back and the underlying tissues are contoured appropriately to provide a youthful look.A neck-lift which operates on the sagging of the skin on the neck is also usually performed as a part of face-lift.
Why Have a Facelift?
As you grow old, the skin on your face becomes loose and the amount of fat deposits that are present under your skin get unevenly distributed. Due to these factors, the facial skin experiences sagging. Sagging of skin occurs on your cheeks, around the nose and the neck. Folds around the nose and the corner of the mouth also appear. You would want to get a facelift done when you are not happy with the age showing on your face every time you look in the mirror or when you suffer from lower self-esteem because of the same.A facelift procedure doesn’t treat wrinkles or creases on the skin or skin pigmentation but you can expect your face-lift to last for around 10 years without the need of another surgery.
Types of Facelifts
A facelift surgery is tailored according to the needs of the patient. It can be done by either of the techniques mentioned below:-
Mini-facelift
A mini facelift is performed on people who have a little amount of sagging of skin. It is not an extensive surgical operations. Short incisions are made along the hairline for pulling the skin back. The tissues around the cheeks are lifted and the jawline is refined to provide a rejuvenated appearance. -
Standard facelift or Full facelift
This technique is a comparatively more extensive procedure. It focuses larger areas including the cheeks and the neck. More incisions are made around the hairline, temple, above the ear etc.
The incisions on the face need time to heal and post-surgery, your face will likely be covered with light bandages to relieve swelling and bruising of the skin.
Post-surgery, several follow -ups will be scheduled for the upcoming two months with your doctor. Utmost self-care needs to be taken in order to achieve the most favourable results.
