Kidney Stone Treatment

Overview

Kidney stones has become a very common and painful urinary tract disorder in the past decades, affecting men and women of almost all ages. The reason that an increasing number of people are suffering with this disease is their unhealthy lifestyle. It is recommended that the human body should receive a minimum of 8-10 glasses of water as a daily intake for the proper and clear functioning of the body. When the water requirements are not fulfilled, then uncomfortable adjustments are made within the various organs in order to carry out the various biological processes and these lead to the development of different kinds of diseases.

How kidney stones are formed?

Food is required to provide energy for the daily activities; once the food is digested and the absorption of the nutrients has taken place, the waste products need to be removed from the body in various forms one of which is through urine. When the urine is in concentrated form i.e. the solid waste particles is more in quantity as compared to the liquid, then the solid particles begin to form crystals which are commonly known as “kidney stones”. The size of kidney stones vary from that of a grain or even smaller to the size of a ping pong ball; they are also of various types.

Symptoms

Pain symptoms that indicate something is wrong with the kidney

Pain in the abdomen is an kidney stone early symptoms but it may not necessarily reflect a kidney disorder, but severe intense lower abdomen pain that spreads to the back, sides and groin area is a serious sign and if accompanied with the above symptoms indicate the existence of kidney stones. Under these circumstances, an appointment with the urologist becomes necessary.

    Kidney stones treatment

The treatment of kidney stones varies on the basis of their size and composition. Smaller kidney stones that range from the size of a dust to a grain may not even require treatment and pass through the urinary tract on their own sometimes or with the help of certain medications and precautions as provided by the urologist . A healthy kidney requires a regular amount of sufficient water intake.

In order to treat kidney stones of bigger size, usually kidney stone surgery techniques or kidney stone laser treatment is used.

Kidney stone treatment of larger stones

Larger kidney stones cannot be passed through the urine by medications because their size remains unaffected by the medications and if pressure is created to pass them then it leads to injury of the urinary tract making it bleed; in this case kidney stone surgery is the next available option for kidney stone disease treatment.

    Kidney stone laser treatment

When diagnosed with larger kidney stones, laser surgery may be followed. This method of treatment is also known as shock wave lithotripsy. Using this technique, the larger stones are broken down into smaller pieces by the vibrations from sound waves making them easier to pass through the urine. This process may take around 45 minutes to an hour and may cause moderate pain and bruises in the kidney or adjacent organs.

    Kidney stones treatment by surgery

Hip arthritis is a progressive disorder. Treatment for arthritis pain is necessary as it increases with age and the condition worsens. Non-surgical hip arthritic treatments are,

These techniques are commonly used for medium sized kidney stones. These surgery methods are named on the basis of the instruments used during the kidney stones treatment. A ureteroscope is a thinner and longer surgical instrument which is inserted through the urethra and is used to locate the kidney stone; once located the stone is broken into smaller pieces.

Percutaneous nephrolithotomy is another method of surgery performed for kidney stone treatment (cystoscopy and ureteroscopy is a bit mild process of surgery compared to percutaneous nephrolithotomy). During kidney stone pain treatment, a cut is made in the back of the body to insert the surgical instruments in the kidney to remove the stone. This method of treatment of kidney stones is used to remove medium to larger stones; the stones are broken down into smaller pieces and then the stones are removed from the kidney by passing through the urinary tract.

The kidney stone laser treatment is more convenient for the patients as compared to the treatment of kidney stones by surgery because causes less pain and injury; it requires less time and the patient is discharged the same day after the the kidney stone surgery procedure.
On the other hand, the surgery methods especially percutaneous nephrolithotomy, is more painful and thus surgery operations require more time to heal, therefore, the patients will not be immediately discharged.

Kidney stones treatment is definitely painful and becomes extremely necessary once diagnosed. It is thus, a wise choice to provide sufficient quantity of fluid to your body by drinking 8-10 glasses of water and keep your kidney healthy.
