PYELONEPHRITIS

Description

  • illness caused by bacteria travelling from your bladder into one or both of your kidneys.
  • condition causes the kidneys to swell, permanently damage the kidneys

Symptoms

  1. Fever
  2. Back, side (flank) or groin pain
  3. Abdominal pain
  4. Frequent urination
  5. Strong, persistent urge to urinate
  6. Burning sensation or pain when urinating
  7. Pus or blood in your urine (hematuria)
  8. Urine that smells bad or is cloudy
  9. chills,nausea,vomiting,fatigue
  10. moist skin
  11. mental confusion

Causes

  1. infection by Bacteria, such as Escherichia coli

Risk factors

  • undergoing a cystoscopic examination
  • having urinary tract surgery
  • having an enlarged prostate
  • certain medications
  • nerve or spinal cord damage
  • using a catheter
  • Weakened immune system
  • Damage to nerves around the bladder
  • vesicoureteral reflux

Lifestyle Management

  • Place a heating pad on your abdomen, back or side
  • Stay hydrated. 
  • pain killers
  • nonaspirin pain reliever that contains acetaminophen (Tylenol)
