Description

Pseudogout, also known as calcium pyrophosphate deposition  disease, is a type of arthritis that causes spontaneous, painful swelling in your joints

Symptoms

  • bouts of joint pain
  • swelling of the affected joint
  • fluid buildup around the joint
  • chronic arthritis

Cause

  • formation of calcium pyrophosphate in synovial fluid
  • crystals deposit in cartilage

Risk factors

  • Older age
  • Joint trauma
  • Genetic disorder
  • Mineral imbalances
  • Other medical conditions

Treatment

  • Medications:
  • Non steriodal anti inflammatory drugs(naprozen)
  • Colchicine
  • Corticosteriods
  • joint drainage

Lifestyle management

  • NSAIDs
  • rest the joints
  • apply ice
