Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune disorder of the skin. It involves blistering and sores (erosions) of the skin and mucous membranes

Symptoms

  • Draining
  • Oozing
  • Crusting
  • Peeling or easily detached

Cause

  • Antibodies to self
  • medications :
  • penicillamine
  • ACE inhibitors

Risk factors

  • Genetic
  • Middle-aged or older

Diagnostic Tests

  • Check for skin peeling(Nilosky sign)
  • Skin biopsy
  • Bblood tests

Treatment

  • corticosteroids
  • Medications that suppress the immune system:
  • azathioprine
  • mycophenolate mofetil
  • methotrexate
  • cyclophosphamide
  • rituximab
  • Antibiotics, Antivirals, and Antifungals
  • Intravenous (IV) Feeding
  • Plasmapheresis
  • Wound Management
